Christian Vogt

Christian Vogt Christian Vogt is a Swiss photographer who was born in 1946. Vogt has won many different awards and publications for his work including Art Directors Awards from Switzerland, Germany, New York, and Los Angeles, Swiss National Scholarships, and more. Vogts work spans over multiple genres including portrait photography, landscape photography, and other types of photography (christianvogt.com). The first picture I am choosing to discuss is this one. I love how well he captured the natural lighting of this photograph. I think the light coming from behind the two rocks (which are clearly the main subjects) really just emphasizes that further. I also love the strong contrast of this photograph with the foreground, middle ground, and background. I think these deep darks and lights really pull the audience into the photo more. I also appreciate the slight triangulation going on in this photograph with the different rocks present. The second photo I am choosing to disc...

Andy Freeberg

Andy Freeberg           Andy Freeberg was born in the United States in New York City. He went to school at the University of Michigan and was a photo editor for a local newspaper in Michigan. After that, he moved back to New York and grew in popularity, working for companies like The Rolling Stone, Time, and other famous outlets. A lot of his photographs include a subject posed in a museum(andyfreeberg.com).     The first photograph of Freebergs I am choosing to discuss is this one. I think his whole concept of including people with art pieces to create completely new art pieces is really interesting and something that you don't see very often. I like this piece specifically because this elderly woman is posed between two statues with very interesting juxtaposition. One is showing this powerful ruler, while the other shows a man standing. I also think it's interesting that he chose to use a woman to put in between the two men because it makes the ...

Irving Penn

Image
Irving Penn Irving Penn is an American photographer who was born in New Jersey in 1917. He was most well known for his portraits and fashion photography and worked at many places including Vogue. He studied graphic design in high school and then went on to study at what is now the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. He studied drawing, painting, graphic design, and more. He really stepped into the photography world after working at Vogue for a few years and being asked to do some shoots for them (Wikipedia).    The first portrait I am choosing to talk about by Irving Penn is this one. One thing Penn really mastered in his time as a photographer was his ability to pose his subjects in a way that really captivated the attention of the audience. This picture specifically I think is posed really interestingly and the hand positions of this subject really cause me to focus on her face. Not only do they act as an outline to her face in a way by cupping it but additional...
